VI International Seminar of UNESCO Chair in eLearning

Barcelona (ES), November 2009 - To mark the end of 2009 as the European Year of Creativity and Innovation, the UNESCO Chair is offering an international platform for presenting Open Social Learning (OSL)-related research and practices. The International Seminar of the UNESCO Chair in eLearning is being held in Barcelona from 30 November - 01 December 2009.

The theoretical foundations of collective knowledge production in social networks on the Internet (connectivism, collectivism, constructivism, edupunks) will be discussed and research and case studies from various continents presented. The possibilities offered by an emerging mode of learning involving a high level of self-learning based on the peer-to-peer support will further be assessed. Different designs, tools and functionalities of social learning networks will be evaluated.

The main scope behind this analysis is to evaluate the possibility of using tools of social networking for teaching and training in a formal educational setting as well as the possibility of offering subjects using open social networks.

The seminar aims for researchers, teachers and educators at all institutional levels to gain a more profound understanding of what constitutes innovation and knowledge creation in the learning and teaching practice. The target is to help the stakeholders to accelerate and strengthen the impact of educational technologies.

The working language of the seminar is English; the deadline for registration is November 12.

The European Foundation for Quality in eLearning (EFQUEL) is also starting two new projects about Open Educational Resources (OER) together with partners like UNESCO and ICDE. A fanpage on Facebook about Open Educational Resources has been launched, and others are invited to join and share their experience.
