ICWL Conference in Aachen, Germany

Aachen (GER), June 2009 - ICWL 2009, the eighth edition of the event, is being held at the RWTH Aachen University in Aachen, Germany from 19-21 August. Aachen is a city with rich culture, innovative high-tech research, and a truly European spirit.




ICWL is an annual international conference on web-based learning. Since the first ICWL was held in Hong Kong in 2002, it has been held in Australia (2003), China (2004), Hong Kong (2005), Malaysia (2006), the United Kingdom (2007), and China (2008). The Hong Kong Web Society, the RWTH Aachen University, and the Max-Planck-Institute for Computer Science are jointly organizing the 2009 event. The technical program features keynote addresses, workshops, tutorials, in addition to presentations of refereed papers.


Keynotes will be given by Prof. Erik Duval from the Department of Computer Sciences at the Catholic University in Leuven and Prof. Dr. Wolfrang Neidl, Department of Computer Science at the University of Hanover. Professor Duval will speak about "Learning in Times of Abundance: The Snowflake Effect", and Professor Neijdl will discuss "Exploiting User Generated Content to Improve Search".

Workshops are being held on Story-Telling and Educational Games; Virtual Worlds for Academic, Organisational and Life-Long Learning; Social Information Retrieval for Technology Enhanced Learning; and the Joining Educational Mathematics network.
