Train2Cert project presents ICT certificates

Schwarmstedt (GER), November 2008 - At Online Educa, Train2Cert project will present and offer ICT certificates and training to commercial partners for joint exploitation. On Friday, December 5, Dr. Piotr Zwierzykowski from the Poznan University of Technology in Poland will present vocational training solutions for certification in the most current ICT skill areas. In the 2.30 p.m. session of the "Teaching and Training Skills for the 21st Century" conference track, he will showcase blended and technology-based training formats for certificates on currently sought-after ICT skills.

These certificates and blended-learning programs have been developed over two years in the Leonardo da Vinci-funded Train2Cert project. Target groups for certificates and courses are ICT professionals, engineers, technicians, students, (unemployed) candidates for re-skilling, and other prospective ICT workers.

The Train2Cert project, which will end in early 2009, is coordinated by the Poznan University of Technology. The project consortium consists of seven partners from six European countries. Academic institutions, including the École Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications de Bretagne, the Tampere University of Technology, the Polytechnic of Milan and the Slovakian Society for Lifelong Learning have developed both certificates and courses based on their special ICT research and teaching expertise. The commercial partners, Emmerce EEIG and bit media eLearning Solutions Germany GmbH, as learning technology specialists, are supplying methodology, tool, and consulting know-how.

The German firm bit media operates as an internal eLearning consultant for the project partners that design and build the training courses. Based on its extensive experience in EU-funded projects bit media has been instrumental in selecting authoring tools, defining a basic course concept and blueprint for individual learning objects, and implementing and evaluating the courses.

At the core of the Train2Cert effort are eLearning and laboratory courses on wireless systems, teletraffic engineering, signaling systems, digital television, network and information security, optical networks, and NGN protocol platforms. Training is designed to help students achieve a thorough understanding of the subject matter, gain insight into the advantages and disadvantages of using these technologies, get an understanding of the relationship among the performance, complexity and cost effectiveness of technology, and have an overview of existing and newly coming applications, solutions, and standards.

Train2Cert actively seeks institutional partners from industry, the training business, and the public sector that want to enhance their business performance or look for products to add value to their ICT portfolio or services. In order to make successful commercial use of the project outcomes, Train2Cert will create a management organization that will handle licensing and reselling models after the project's February 2009 termination.
