Competition to Reuse and Remix Study Materials

Milton Keynes (UK), September 2007 - The Open University is setting a challenge to educators worldwide to reuse and remix their study materials. The aim is to inspire creativity, collaboration, and cost reduction in course production, enabling wider access to education for all. Published under a Creative Commons license, all materials can be downloaded to be reused as they are in a different educational environment, or amended to create something new that can be shared with others.

Supported by an open-source virtual learning environment - Moodle - the OpenLearn materials are already a rich resource for learners. The Open University thinks that their potential also lies in their innovative use by course developers.
OpenLearn launched a competition with two categories: reuse and remix. The competition aims to showcase and reward some of the best examples of this.

"Use our content as it is to impact learners. ... Amend our materials to create something new"; this is how OpenLearn defines reuse and remix. There will be a price for each category remix. The entry will be judged by a panel of open-content experts.

The deadline for participation is 1 October 2007. The winners will be announced at the OpenLearn 2007 conference
on October 30th.
