Twelfth International Conference on Interactive Learning

Villach (AT), June 2009 - The International Conference on Interactive Computer-aided Learning (ICL) 2009 is being held in Villach, Austria. This interdisciplinary conference focuses on the exchange of relevant trends and research results as well as the presentation of practical experience gained while developing and testing elements of interactive computer-aided learning, especially in engineering education.

The special track "Mashups for Learning" focuses in particular on new and innovative approaches, applications, and experiences with mashups for learners using Web 2.0 applications. It is chaired by Dr. Martin Ebner of the Graz University of Technology, Austria and Dr. Sandra Schaffert of Salzburg Research, Austria.

Wikis, Weblogs, media portals like FlickR and YouTube, as well as social networking sites like MySpace and LinkedIn offer various opportunities for learning. These are not always easy to handle and organise. Webbased mashups merge data and/or functionalities from different Web sources.

An example of mashups for learners is Personal Learning Environments (PLEs). Various prototypes and tools try to support communities of practice and learners by effectively combining resources. Additionally, smart applications are developed to add filtering and recommender systems, reputation systems, engagement indicators, personalisation opportunities, and quality assurance concepts to support learning in the Web 2.0.
