COMBLE Selected as Project of the Month

Barcelona (ES)/Wildau (GER) - September 2010 - The website elearningeuropa.info, an initiative of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Education and Culture, chose COMBLE as its "Project of the Month". COMBLE'S aim is to improve the quality of blended learning.

The project explores the questions of when an institution (universities, further education organizations, or firms) is ready for blended learning, what the common challenges and solutions are, and how trainers can design active and collaborative learning.

Learning technologies based on collaboration and social interaction can improve the quality of learning. However, this potential will only unfold if institutions implement suitable methodologies and learning cultures, and if instructors become able to integrate active learning by choosing suitable activities.

One important step in supporting pedagogical innovations is to combine learning technologies with collaborative and learner-centered learning activities: group work, learning in projects, working on real problems in complex learning settings like tandem learning, open spaces, web quests, video casts, or expert learning. Training and education will be innovative and foster digital competence if it focuses on both ICT and methodological competences.

Project results:

  • the European wiki-based community Methopedia, which is a platform for blended-learning experts to share relevant knowledge and experience. Methopedia is available in four languages and contains about a hundred learning activities and an interactive seminar planner.
  • A blended-learning-readiness Wiki to support strategic planning, change management, and the evaluation of blended-learning scenarios at the institutional level.
  • The Methopedia Learning Designer, which is an online Flash tool to design seminars. It is available on the Methopedia website.
