Totara Extends the Life of Moodle 1.9

Wellington (NZ), April 2012 - Moodle HQ is now focusing on the Moodle 2.x series and will end support for Moodle 1.9 security fixes in June 2012. To ease the transition to Moodle 2, Totara Learning Solutions will sponsor support for serious Moodle 1.9 security issues until December 2013.

As with any software product, Moodle releases have a specific support lifecycle. From time to time, legacy functionality is discontinued or replaced with newer, more current solutions. Recognising that there is still a large installation base for the highly successful Moodle 1.9 version, Totara is working with Moodle partner Catalyst IT to provide long-term security support free of charge to the Moodle community.

With over 67,000 registered sites, Moodle is the most popular learning-management system globally. Catalyst IT is an authorised Moodle Partner, with offices in the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.

Richard Wyles, CEO of Totara says, "This is the open-source model in action. We're committed to the Moodle community and look for ways where we can help out. We know that there is a high number of organisations that, for whatever reason, haven't made the switch yet, so this provides some extended end-of-life support for them."

"TotaraLMS is a custom distribution of Moodle for enterprise customers, so we're not really focused on the education market. But that's not the point: We're strong believers in the virtuous circle of the open-source model", he adds.
